Advancing Medicine to Meet Tomorrow's Challenges Michael Grever, MD | Today's environment is a challenging and exciting one in which to practice internal medicine. Increasing concerns about cardiovascular health, the needs of aging persons and the emergence of new infectious diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), are just some of the issues requiring the expertise of an internist and subspecialists. Through its nationally recognized faculty and programs in its 11 Divisions, the Department of Internal Medicine aims to have an impact on these and other health concerns by: Among the Department's numerous efforts toward these goals, are the following: - Ongoing studies of HIV and AIDS patients at the Department's AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, a National Institutes of Health-designated research site;
- The expansion of cardiology services and increased cancer exploration;
- Exponential growth in biomedical research; and
- Active collaborations with local institutions to serve underserved communities, to name only a few.
We invite you to be a part of these dynamic endeavors. If you're a patient, we hope you'll seek services and care in our clinics. If you're a medical student, or are seeking a residency or fellowship, we invite you to explore these pages. Michael Grever, MD, FACP Chair and Professor
