Liver cancers are a major cause of death worldwide, and the incidence of both types of primary liver cancers (hepatocellular cancer and cholangiocarcinoma) are increasing worldwide.
The goals of the Liver Cancer program at the Ohio State University Medical Center are to provide high quality expert care to patients with liver cancers and to promote basic, clinical, and population based research as well as to translate these findings to a better understanding of risk, prevention, and therapy of liver cancers.
The program consists of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional group of physicians and scientists involved in clinical, basic, and translational science.
Specifically, the program's translational research objectives are to understand the molecular pathogenesis of liver cancer and to develop new therapeutic approaches based on an understanding of the underlying biology.
