Activities of the Community Advisory Board

As part of the National Institutes of Health-funded AIDS Clinical Trials Group, the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) has a Community Advisory Board (CAB). The CAB’s mission is to provide community input into the operations of the ACTG.

The CAB provides an opportunity for affected communities, especially clinical trials participants, to understand the clinical research process and allows community members to voice their concerns regarding specific clinical studies, their development, implementation and outcomes. The board also provides technical assistance on issues related to recruiting and retaining trial participants, and advocates on behalf of them in the event of grievances. This structure creates an unique opportunity for researchers and the community to forge a partnership that will lead to improved knowledge of HIV disease.

Do you have suggestions or concerns that you would like to share with the CAB? Please contact Michael McDonald at Michael.McDonald@osumc.edu or (614) 293-8112.

The CAB at The Ohio State University ACTU provides a voice and opportunity for input for clinical trials participants in the central Ohio area. The CAB also engages in a number of activities throughout the year. These activities include:

Community Educational Forums
Peer Support Programs
