Research Interests
Genetics and biology of the complement system and other proteins that interact with circulating immune complexes (IC). The overall goals of these studies are to understand the processes that lead to diseases caused by IC, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and various forms of IC nephritis. Included in these efforts are studies utilizing a large cohort of SLE patients, unaffected family members, and demographically matched controls as part of an ongoing NIH-funded Program Project to assess genetic and environmental risk factors for SLE onset, for specific manifestations such as nephritis, and for SLE relapse.
